Santa Maria makes noise at Nite Moves

Ocean swimmers make a break for the waterline at Leadbetter Beach on Wednesday.

Nite Moves experienced an injection from North County on Wednesday as Santa Maria Swim Club members came out in force, with their athletes taking the 1k ocean swim and aquathon.

Orcutt’s Joshua Prenot won the ocean swim in a time of 14 minutes and 38 minutes. Twelve of the top 16 swimmers came from Santa Maria, Lompoc or Arroyo Grande.

Santa Barbara’s Luke Stark finished second, followed by Goleta’s Brian Roth and women’s winner Adrienne Binder in fourth.

Casey Bateman was fifth overall in the ocean swim and went on to place first in the aquathon. The Santa Marian’s winning time was 37:05. His run was second-best among aquathon competitors.

RESULTS & SEASON LEADERS

Parker Bell, 15, and Ruth Hunter, 13, became the youngest pair of winners of the season in the 5k run. Bell’s time of 18:55 bettered Court Michau (19:07) and 210 others. ?Hunter won the women’s race in 20:06 by nearly two minutes.
