GVSLL’s 17 runs needed to top Fillmore

The Goleta Valley South 13/14 Junior All-Stars

It was a tale of two games tonight when the 13/14 year old Goleta Valley South Juniors all star team hosted the Fillmore all stars.

Goleta took a 2-1 lead early in what looked a pitcher’s duel in the making. Fillmore then exploded for a 7 run fourth inning. Goleta Valley fought back with four runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth. Going into the seventh (and final inning) Goleta trailed by one run. 9 hits and 9 runs later Goleta Valley had taken a commanding 16-8 lead. Goleta Valley finished off Fillmore in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 16-9.

Goleta Valley was led on the mound by David McCarthy and Louie Shallhoob. Louie earned the win for Goleta Valley. The turning point defensively for Goleta Valley came in the fifth inning when Fillmore had the bases loaded with one out. Shalhoob made a great pitch that led to a double play that took the life out of Fillmore. The double play was turned by Nolan Cope (shortstop) to Kyle Gonzalez (second) to Pierce O’Donnell (first).

Every player of Goleta Valley had at least one hit (the team had 23 in total). The team was led offensively by Sam Roberts (4 hits) and Sebastian Elizondo (3 hits – all of them doubles).

Goleta Valley plays Montalvo on Saturday at the Page Youth Center at 3:00.
