Williams, Salda receive All-CIF nod

Bishop Diego’s John Salda and Aidan Williams have been named to the All-CIF team for Division 6 of the Southern Section, it was announced on Tuesday.

Desert Christian’s Chance Gusbeth was recognized as the Division’s Most Valuable Player. Gusbeth, along with coach Dennis Shyrock, led the Knights to a 26-3 record and the divisional CIF championship.

Salda and Williams were both key contributors to a Cardinals team that won the Frontier League title and entered the postseason as the Division’s No. 3 team. Both players will return next season, as Williams is a sophomore and Salda a junior.

Williams, the Frontier League MVP, posted a .426 batting average in 21 games. The shortstop led the Cardinals with 27 runs scored, two home runs and 23 runs batted in.

Salda’s .440 average was a team-high as was his on-base percentage of .603. The catcher added 19 runs and 12 RBI.
