San Diego’s Smith stingy with Foresters

Elliot Smith and the Sand Diego Force shut down the Santa Barbara Foresters on Saturday, claiming a 9-0 victory at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

Smith remained on the mound for the entire nine innings, holding the Foresters to just five hits. Smith struck out five and walked two.

Steven Reveles did not have one of the Foresters’ five hits, snapping his season-opening seven-game hitting streak. After an 0-for-4 performance, the Foresters’ shortstop and leadoff hitter is still batting .382 on the season.

Cal Vogelsang’s 2-for-4 represented Santa Barbara’s best success against Smith. Vogelsang, playing in his first game of the summer with Santa Barbara, also made a pair of defensive plays in the outfield that helped limit San Diego’s damage.

The Force used 11 hits to score their nine. Tim Williams was 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, while Shane Riley was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Riley’s three-run home run to left field in the fifth inning made the score 6-0.

The same two teams are back at it on Sunday with a game at 1 p.m.
