The Santa Barbara Foresters won their fifth straight game on Friday, taking their win streak on the road in a 6-3 victory over Team Vegas in Las Vegas.
Friday’s game was the first of a three-game California Collegiate League series to be finished on Saturday and Sunday.
Vegas’ Chipper Smith, recently drafted by the Miami Marlins, threw a complete game and only allowed four singles, but a handful of errors from his infield led to six unearned runs.
Brandon Pierce was the winning pitcher for Santa Barbara. The University of Nebraska player lasted five innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Albert Minnis and Willie Kuhl helped close out the win on the mound for Santa Barbara. Minnis threw three innings before Kuhl came on in the ninth to record the save.
The Foresters improve to 3-1 in CCL play. The San Luis Blues are leading the league with a 6-2 record already. Team Vegas falls to 3-7 in CCL competition.
