SBCC’s Seeman still alive in both regional draws

SBCC freshman Miles Seemann gained the semifinals in singles and doubles on Friday in the Southern Cal Regional men’s tennis tournament at Irvine Valley.

Seemann, a former Santa Ynez High star who‘s seeded No. 6, beat Rex Miller of Orange Coast 6-1, 6-2 and upended No. 3 Josh Banks of Desert 3-0, retired.

On Saturday morning, Seemann will battle No. 12 Ales Modry of Saddleback in the semifinals.

Joshua Crisp-Jones, a freshman from Birmingham, England who’s seeded eighth, defeated No. 9 Tracy Beblie of Palomar 6-1, 6-2 before falling to top-seeded Moises Cardenas of L.A. Pierce 6-2, 7-6 (13) in a long quarterfinal.

Seemann and Crisp-Jones are seeded fifth in doubles. They got past No. 12 Chris Nguy-Kyle Porter of Cerritos 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and upset No. 3 Alexander Miehle-Laszlo Irme of Mt. San Jacinto 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

“It was a great day,” said SBCC coach Ryan Heinberg. “We played a lot of tennis. It really helped that our guys were in such great shape.

“In doubles, we outlasted our opponents physically and mentally. We really showed a lot of heart.”

Seemann/Crisp-Jones also reached the semifinals at last week’s prestigious Ojai Tournament. The Vaqueros will take on No. 1 Parker Kelley-Josh Banks of Desert in Saturday’s semifinals at 2 p.m.

Seemann and Crisp-Jones both earned trips to the State Finals in singles and doubles by getting into the quarterfinals. The State Finals will be held May 10-12 at the Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego.
