SBCC freshman Miles Seemann gained the semifinals in singles and doubles on Friday in the Southern Cal Regional men’s tennis tournament at Irvine Valley.
Seemann, a former Santa Ynez High star who‘s seeded No. 6, beat Rex Miller of Orange Coast 6-1, 6-2 and upended No. 3 Josh Banks of Desert 3-0, retired.
On Saturday morning, Seemann will battle No. 12 Ales Modry of Saddleback in the semifinals.
Joshua Crisp-Jones, a freshman from Birmingham, England who’s seeded eighth, defeated No. 9 Tracy Beblie of Palomar 6-1, 6-2 before falling to top-seeded Moises Cardenas of L.A. Pierce 6-2, 7-6 (13) in a long quarterfinal.
Seemann and Crisp-Jones are seeded fifth in doubles. They got past No. 12 Chris Nguy-Kyle Porter of Cerritos 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and upset No. 3 Alexander Miehle-Laszlo Irme of Mt. San Jacinto 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
“It was a great day,” said SBCC coach Ryan Heinberg. “We played a lot of tennis. It really helped that our guys were in such great shape.
“In doubles, we outlasted our opponents physically and mentally. We really showed a lot of heart.”
Seemann/Crisp-Jones also reached the semifinals at last week’s prestigious Ojai Tournament. The Vaqueros will take on No. 1 Parker Kelley-Josh Banks of Desert in Saturday’s semifinals at 2 p.m.
Seemann and Crisp-Jones both earned trips to the State Finals in singles and doubles by getting into the quarterfinals. The State Finals will be held May 10-12 at the Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego.
