Mackall’s sweep positions Cate to beat San Marcos

Friday’s non-league tangle between San Marcos and Cate went down to games as the two schools were tied 9-9 after three rounds of play. Cate clinched the win with an 82-76 advantage in games.

Cate’s Blake Mackall was the difference-maker for Cate, winning three sets 7-5, 6-0, 6-0. His 7-5 win came against San Marcos’ Petar Jivkov, who had just played for the Channel League singles championship the day before.

Austin Lokre and Alex Erling each won a set in singles for Cate as the Rams won 5-of-9 singles sets. San Marcos had the advantage in doubles sets 5-4.

Cate (9-4) plays next on Monday at the Condor League Individual Championships, with the team CIF Tournament beginning on Wednesday.
