Four teams at home for second-round CIF volleyball matches

Playoff volleyball will going on all over town on Thursday night as Santa Barbara, Dos Pueblos, Laguna Blanca and Cate all received home matches for the second round of CIF competition.

In Division 1, it will be a showdown between the Channel League and the Trinity League. Santa Barbara takes on defending division champion Mater Dei at J.R. Richards Gym at 6:30 p.m. while Dos Pueblos hosts Servite at Sovine Gym at 7.

Dos Pueblos swept Foothill on the road in Tuesday?s first round while Servite took out Long Beach Wilson in three straight. The teams met in the quarterfinals of the Dos Pueblos Invitational and the Friars squeaked out a narrow victory.

Channel League champion Santa Barbara battled back from a 2-1 deficit to beat a big Los Alamitos team in five sets in the first round at home. Mater Dei also needed five sets to outlast Long Beach Poly. Mater Dei finished second to Servite in the Trinity League standings

In Division 5, Condor League champion Cate plays host to Pasadena Poly at 5:30 while Condor runner-up Laguna Blanca is home to No. 2 seeded and defending champion Chadwick at 4:30 p.m.

In the first round, Laguna Blanca knocked off Delphic League champion Pacific Lutheran in four sets in San Pedro, and Cate swept Pilibos.
