Dons go as far as SCGA Championship

Santa Barbara High’s boys golf team finished seventh at Thursday’s SCGA Championship at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena, shooting a 384 in what would be the Dons’ final round of the season.

Torrey Pines won the title with a 367 and will be joined by second-place Santa Margarita and third-place Clovis West at next week’s State Championships.

“Of course, the players are sad to finish the season today, but this has been a great experience for all of the boys,” said Dons head coach James Bedard. “Mickey Kirby, Sean Searls, Spencer Mikles and Alec Constatinides are all headed for bigger and better things, and this program will have some big shoes to fill for the second time in three years.”

Mikles, Kirby and Searls were on the Dons team that finished third at the SCGA Championships in 2010 on its way to a State Championship.

Kirby and James Morton were Santa Barbara’s low scorers with 75s. Jonathan Collins was next at 77. Searls’ 78 and Mikles’ 79 complete the Dons’ round.

The Dons reached the SCGA Championship by winning the CIF Northern Team Regional before placing fourth at the Southern Section Championship. The Dons also claimed their sixth-straight Channel League title this season.

“I am so proud of how this team has come together this year and look forward to a break, and to restart the season next year,” Bedard said.
