UCSB finishes sixth in final tune-up before Big West championship

Russell Boring shot a 4-over par 217 to finish tied for 10th as the UC Santa Barbara golf team finished sixth at the Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Tuesday.

Boring actually led the tournament after one round, carding a 3-under par 68. He followed those round up with a 3-over par 74 and a 4-over par 75 in the final round. Kei Kita tied Tyler Sterk for the lowest final round by a Gaucho, shooting 3-under par 74, and finished at 9-over par 222, tying for 18th. Sterk was tied for 28th at 14-over par 227.

Led by the individual winner, Kevin Lim, Long Beach State won the tournament by eight shots over St. John’s. The 49ers were 10-over par for the three rounds and Lim shot a 1-under 212 to edge his teammate Kevin Roy and San Jose State’s Jay Myers who each carded an even-par 213.

UCSB returns to action next week at the Big West Championship Tournament at the La Quinta Mountain Course in La Quinta, Calif The tournament will run from April 29-May 1.
