Shoemake sharp in SBCC victory at fifth-ranked Glendale

Brendon Shoemake, Danny Nieves and Shane Turner combined on a four-hitter Tuesday, leading SBCC past Glendale 3-1 in a nonconference baseball game at Casey Stengel Field in Glendale.

Shoemake (5-4) allowed an unearned run and four hits in six innings as the Vaqueros (12-15) snapped a three-game losing streak. Nieves threw two no-hit innings and Turner notched his third save by pitching the ninth.

Glendale, ranked No. 5 in Southern Cal and the leader in the WSC South, fell to 18-9.

The SBCC Vaqueros (both teams use the same nickname) went ahead 2-0 in the fifth on RBI singles by Joey Epperson and Brandon Laubhan. In the eighth, Epperson drove in Eli Michaels on a sacrifice bunt to make it 3-1.

Michaels doubled for the third straight game. The leadoff hitter has hit safely in six of the last seven games.

Santa Barbara will play at No. 9 Riverside on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
