Santa Ynez breaks through late to catch Royals

Six runs in the final two innings pushed Santa Ynez past San Marcos on Wednesday in a 6-4 non-league decision in favor of the Pirates.

The Royals led 4-0 after scoring three runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Santa Ynez woke up in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs to cut the lead to 4-3. Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth was the difference.

Katie Guenther’s two-run double started Santa Ynez’s rally in the fifth.
