Santa Barbara gets past San Marcos at Sandpiper

Sean Searls rebounded from an eight on the first hole and captured medalist honors to help Santa Barbara defeat San Marcos 393-420 in a Channel League boys golf match at Sandpiper Golf Course on Tuesday.

Searls shot one-over par for the rest of his round to finish at 4-over 76. Teammate Jonathan Collins followed with a 77.

“Even though the boys felt they did not play their best today, we are really pleased to walk away with a win away from home in Channel League,” Santa Barbara coach James Bedard said. “The league is so tough that nothing can be taken for granted.”

Santa Barbara improves to 15-1 and 4-0 in league.

Dylan Wright shot a 79 to lead San Marcos.

“Many players struggled putting on the greens, specifically from above the hole,” Bedard said. “It was tough to stop the ball near the hole if you were putting downhill. This led to a number of 3 putts and even some 4 putts down the stretch.”
