Hutchinson leads Warriors to narrow victory

Carpinteria’s Marcus Hutchinson pitched five innings and scored the winning run for his team in the seventh winning as the Warriors won an important Tri-Valley League game 3-2 against Nordhoff.

With the score tied at 2-2 after six, Hutchinson led off the final inning with a single. Diego Martinez knocked another base hit to advance Hutchinson, and Jacob Barbere’s sacrifice fly brought him home to put the Warriors ahead.

Colton Rubio then came in, struck out two batters and got the three outs he needed, despite feeling the pressure of the tying and winning runs on the bases.

Freshman Nick Walker pitched an inning in relief and earned his first career win for his effort.

Hutchinson and Rubio excelled at plate as well as on the mound. Hutchinson went 2-for-3 and scored two runs while Rubio went 2-4.

Carpinteria (7-6 overall, 2-1 TVL) will play a rematch with Nordhoff on Thursday at home.
