Gulvin picks up first win for Chargers

Dos Pueblos freshman Veronika Gulvin posted her first win of her high school career on Wednesday, pitching for a key 2 2/3 innings in a 2-1 non-league victory over Westlake.

The Chargers scored their two runs in the top of the seventh after Westlake had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Hannah Harris started in the pitcher’s circle for Dos Pueblos through four innings. Gulvin came on in scoreless relief in the fifth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Harris replaced Gulvin to record the final out.

Kai Uyesaka delivered the game-tying hit in the seventh, followed by the game-winning hit by Haley Peterson. Ady Willett and Peterson were both 2-for-3 in the game.

The one run allowed to Westlake marks the 14th consecutive game that the Chargers (14-2, 6-1) have allowed two runs or less to their opponents.

Dos Pueblos is ranked No. 3 in CIF’s Division 4.
