Fifth-ranked Dons overpower San Marcos

Santa Barbara High showed the overall strength of its boys tennis team in a 14-4 Channel League win at San Marcos on Tuesday.

Nico Pollero and Graham Maassen went 2-0 at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and the Dons’ top three doubles teams also posted 2-0 records. The teams were Logan Liddell-Mitchell Kuhn, Jack Damen-Avery Chernin, and Austin Trevillian-Jordan Rodnick.

Santa Barbara (4-0, 2-0) is ranked No. 5 in CIF Division 1. San Marcos is 7-3, 2-1.

Petar Jivkov and Owen Lincoln won singles sets for the Royals. In doubles, the teams of Garrett Hazarian-Spencer Kennedy and Lucas Budgett-Burke McComb each earned a win.

Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said the highlight for the Dons was freshman Jake Sutton outlasting the Royals’ Oliver Piltch, 7-6, in the final match of the day, with both teams and an energetic crowd cheering them on.
