Justin Lucchesi and Stamatia Scarvelis excelled in the circle in their respective sports to earn Athlete of the Week honors at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Lucchesi, a pitcher for the Cate School baseball team, dominated on the mound in a 6-0 win at Valley Christian of Santa Maria. He threw five hitless innings and struck out 11 in improving his season record to 3-0.
Scarvelis notched victories in the shot put and discus rings at the Maurice Greene Invitational track and field meet at Oaks Christian. The Dos Pueblos sophomore threw the shot 45-7.75 to set at stadium record and a personal best. The mark is third best in the state.
Her winning discus mark of 126-0 was her second best throw of the season.
