Dons offense shut down at Buena

The Santa Barbara High baseball team struggled at the plate and lost 5-0 in a Channel League match at Buena.

The Dons only managed to get one hit in the game, and it came on an infield single by Michael Day in the seventh inning.

“The balls we did hit were right at them,” assistant coach Mike Cooney said. “We had a lot of contact. He only had five strikeouts.”

Isaac Horigan pitched a complete-game shutout for the Bulldogs.

“He’s a very good pitcher,” Cooney said. “He will probably be one of the All-League pitchers.”

Santa Barbara (10-7 overall, 1-4 CL) will have a rematch with Buena on Friday at home. The Dons need a win in order to keep their hopes of a CIF birth alive.

“It’s pretty much do or die for us,” Cooney said. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and we’ve pretty much had all the losses we can deal with.”
