Ward, Yamauchi finish competition at NCAA Championships

AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore swimmers Andrea Ward and Sophia Yamauchi completed their event programs on Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Yamauchi, who swam three events during the championships, finished 45th in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries. She touched the wall in 2:14.15.

Ward, who was competing her second event of the weekend, finished 40th in the 200 butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:00.01.

On Friday, Ward competed in the 100 butterfly, while Yamauchi swam in the 100 breaststroke during preliminaries.

Ward finished 29th in the 100 fly with a time of 53.41 seconds. The mark was .43 seconds off of her school-record in the event and she finished just one place lower than her original seed into the event.

In the 100 breast, Yamauchi touched 35th overall with a time of 1:01.77, which was .68 seconds off of her career-best. She finished one spot higher than her seed into the event.

Both swimmers will wrap up their first NCAA Championship appearances on Saturday as Ward competes in the 200 fly and Yamauchi races in the 200 breast.
