Vaqueros reach semifinals of GW Invitational

Alyse Harris threw a six-hitter and Tara Crawford was 3-3 with two RBIs on Saturday, leading SBCC past WSC rival Oxnard 7-2 in the quarterfinals of the Golden West Invitational at Huntington Beach.

The 12-team tourney, in its 35th year, is the oldest community college softball event in America.

Santa Barbara (5-7) will meet another WSC Gold team, Moorpark, in the semifinals on Sunday at 10 a.m. The final is slated for noon.

Harris, a freshman from Denver, Colo., gave up two runs on six hits. She struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

Lauren Larabell was 2-4 with two stolen bases for the Vaqueros. Natalie Orosco had a two-run single in the third. Mariah Coyazo and Crawford delivered RBI singles in the fifth, boosting the lead to 5-0.

The Vaqueros had 11 hits with seven batters getting at least one.
