UCSB baseball starting ‘Throwback Tuesdays’

Throwback Tuesdays, a new promotion for the UC Santa Barbara baseball team in 2012, begins when the Gauchos host CSU Bakersfield on March 6 with first pitch at 2 p.m.

All Tuesday home games this season are titled Throwback Tuesdays with lower ticket prices and discounted merchandise – especially on throwback jerseys! Every Tuesday home game at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium will honor a UCSB team from the past and the opening Tuesday will honor the 1996 Regional Team that featured current Texas Rangers star Michael Young.

Music from 1996 will be played all game long and there will be numerous chances for fans to win prizes with trivia based on 1996 facts and events.

The 1996 Gauchos won 32 games and played in the Regionals held at Stanford. Aside from Young, that year’s team also featured Justin Lehr, then a catcher, who made it to the majors as a pitcher, as well as Wynter Phoenix and David Willias, who are each in the UCSB top-10 in career hits. Phoenix is the program leader in career triples while Willis is second all-time in RBI.
