Royals sharpen up at Ventura Invitational

Andrew Thayer and the boys 4×100 relay team highlighted San Marcos’ day at the Ventura Invitational on Saturday.

Thayer placed third in the 100-yard sprint. His time of 11.15 was his best of the year.

The 4×100 relay team was second to Rio Mesa with a time of 43:06. The quartet includes Thayer, Colin Sininger, Cole Erickson and Tanner Charest.

In a mixture of distance and sprinters, the Royals’ girls 4×800 team of Kaylin Koopmans, Rocio Pacheco, Annie Thwing and Kaitlyn Kuehn finished second with a time of 10:04.84

The boys 4×400 relay placed third in 3:28. Erickson, Joe Dodson, Davey McBride and Victor Sanchez combined to get there.

Royals head coach Marilyn Hantgin said it was a good tune-up for their league opener on Thursday against Santa Barbara. San Marcos hosts at Warkentin Stadium.
