Jivkov paces Royals to first team victory

Petar Jivkov continued a solid start to his season as San Marcos’ No. 1 singles player, winning three sets on Friday in a 12-6 victory for the Royals over visiting Oxnard.

Jivkov lost three games in his three set wins, making Jivkov 6-0 in two matches this season. The Royals evened their record at 1-1.

Oxnard falls to 1-3.

Keyvan Golizadeh and Burke McComb won two-of-three singles sets as San Marcos’ singles players combined to win 7-of-9.

“Burke and Keyvan adjusted well to the style of play today and picked their spots to hit winners,” noted Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley. “Both have such good serves but their consistency is what won them sets today.”

Jack Haley and Lucas Budgett enjoyed a new partnership in doubles, taking two sets 6-3 and 6-1.

“I was excited to see Jack and Lucas so active on the court,” Bradley said. “They served and returned with confidence and it showed today in their set scores.”

The Royals play at Buena on Tuesday in their Channel League opener.
