Harrington captures Golfweek pro tourney in 1-hole playoff

Scott Harrington birdied the first playoff hole and beat Nick Delio to win the $150,000 Golfweek National Pro Tour Pacific Open on Friday at Sandpiper Golf Course.

Harrington and Delio tied at 11-under par 277 after 72 holes. Each shot 2-under 70 on the final day.

Harrington, who has played on the European Challenge Tour and two full years on the Nationwide Tour, reached the 524-yard, par-5 first hole in two shots. He hit his 22-foot putt for eagle inches from the cup and tapped in for birdie.

Delio, the 2008 California State Amateur Champion and 2010 SCGA Match Play Champion (played at Sandpiper), suffered some bad luck on the playoff hole. After knocking his second shot over the green, his pitch hit the back of the hole and spun out. He came up short on his birdie putt.

Dustin Pimm, the nephew of former UCSB basketball coach Jerry Pimm, finished third at 8-under 280. Nathan Tyler (281) was fourth and Brandon Lee (283) and Chris Parra (283) tied for fifth. Lee had the best round of the day with a 6-under 66.

The victory was Scott’s second on the Golfweek National Pro Tour. His first win was last year. He also had three runner-up finishes and one third-place finish.

The Pacific Open was the tour’s first event of the season. It moves to Rustic Canyon next week for the L.A. Open.
