Cate’s Ema Boateng is the repeat CIF Division 7 Player of the Year for the Southern Section, leading a handful of Rams receiving honors for their championship season.

Boateng, who will be playing for UC Santa Barbara next year, led Cate to its second-straight Southern Section title in early March as their central midfielder.

Senior teammates Avery Schwartz and Blake Wands were joined by junior defender Joshua Yaro on the division’s First Team.

Boateng finished his season with 31 goals and 19 assists even though he was the focal point of opposing teams’ defensive schemes.

Schwartz was second on the team in points with 27 goals and 11 assists.

Wands was a senior captain playing goalkeeper. He and Yaro led a defense that recorded 14 shutouts. Yaro also liked to move up on the attack and scored seven goals and contributed five assists.

Cate’s head coach Dave Mochel was named Coach of the Year for guiding the Rams through a season of enormous expectations.
