Cate defeated Newbury Park Adventist 15-1 on Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
Justin Lucchesi started on the mound for Cate and picked up the win after completing four innings of two-hit ball. Lucchesi struck out eight while walking one. Ryan Baird came on in relief and struck out another five batters in two innings of work.
Cate head coach Ben Soto was pleased with both pitchers, noting how they were “right around the dish” for most of the game.
Greg Cusack recorded three of Cate’s 10 hits and added a team-high 4 RBI. Carlos Fairbanks and Chris Oh added a pair of hits each and drove in five runs combined.
Cate doesn’t see game action again until after its spring break on March 23rd.
