Big first inning sparks Royals to victory

San Marcos erupted for nine runs with two outs in the first inning and went on to defeat Villanova Prep 11-3 in a So Cal Invitaitonal baseball game in Ojai on Wednesday.

Isaac Rodriguez belted a three-run homer and Jimmy Brakka had two doubles and two RBIs as the Royals collected seven consecutive hits and were aided by two Villanova errors in the long inning.

San Marcos finished the game with 16 hits. Evan Doherty and Paxton Ridgway both went 3-for-5 and Rodriguez was 2-5 with four RBIs. Cody Semler had two RBIs.

Anthony Branch, the first of five pitchers used by the Royals, notched the victory.

San Marcos (2-1) is back in action Friday and Saturday with tournament home against Santa Paula and Viewpoint.
