Ventura overcomes 4-hitter to edge SBCC

Alyse Harris threw a four-hitter on Saturday but Ventura still managed to pull out a 3-2 softball win in the championship bracket of the San Diego City Invitational. The Vaqueros (3-5) tied for fifth in the 15-team tourney.

Freshman first baseman Natalie Orosco went 2-3 with an RBI single in her return to the San Diego area.

The Vaqueros took a 2-0 lead in the second. Lauren Larabell scored on a triple by Brianna Portese and Portese touched home on a single by Orosco. Teresa Lemos pitched a six-hitter for Ventura and won the game with an RBI single to right-center in the fifth inning.

Harris (2-4) struck out five and walked one.

The Vaqueros return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 28 when they host L.A. Valley at 2:30 p.m.
