“I don’t think anyone expected today’s result except our girls,” Laguna coach Kevin Shertzer said. “From the opening whistle to the last kick, I felt our team dominated the game. We had enough chances to double our tally, but are extremely happy with the outcome, especially after losing to Cate earlier in the season.”

Scarborough gave the Owls the lead in the fifth minute, but the Rams responded five minutes later and tied the score.

With 10 minutes left in the half, Scarborough struck again making it 2-1 at the half.

“We felt confident at halftime that if we kept up what we were doing that we could run away with the game. We knew that the next goal in the game was crucial,” Shertzer said.

Scarborough got the goal to complete her hat trick.

Elise Scheuermann scored shortly after that and Becca Braly and Maddy Bonser added goals later in the half. Cate scored in the last minute.

Fiona Jessup and Nadia Belton keyed the Laguna defense. Belton contained Cate star Annie Weis.

“Nadia, time and time again, forced Annie out of the game and Cate didn’t have any other offensive threats,” said Shertzer.
