San Marcos upset by Charter Oak

The second-seeded San Marcos boys basketball team was shocked by Charter Oak on Friday, losing 48-45 in a CIF Division 3-AA second-round game in Covina.

Charter Oak senior forward Kody Brown hit a 7-foot baseline jumper with 45 seconds remaining in the game to give it a 47-45 lead.

The Royals finished the regular season with a 14-10 record and were tied for second in the Channel League. They received the second seed for the CIF Division 3-AA playoffs and won their first game against Hawthorne.

Thayer White scored 17 points to lead the Royals.

Senior forward Chris Gilchrist scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Chargers (12-15).

Despite the loss, San Marcos had a successful 2011-12 campaign, finishing with a 15-11 overall record.
