The Santa Barbara High and Dos Pueblos girls water polo teams won both their games at the Irvine Southern California Championships on Thursday and earned a spots in the quarterfinals.
Dos Pueblos blew out Coronado 13-1 and Agoura 16-5 to set up a meeting with Newport Harbor in Friday night’s quarterfinals at 6 p.m. at the William Woollett Aquatics Center.
Santa Barbara blanked Vista 15-0 — its second shutout in a week — and convincingly beat El Toro 14-8. The Dons face Foothill in the quarterfinals. Foothill was the Division 1 runner-up last year against Dos Pueblos.
Hannah Brunnett and Claire Bergtholdz led a smothering Dons defense with six steals each against Vista. Rocio Fesembeck turned in an excellent all-around performance with three goals, three assists and four steals.
Against El Toro, Kelsey O’Brien accounted for half the teams goals and scored seven. Charlotte Hendrix also had an excellent offensive outing with two goals and a team-leading five assists. The Dons are 17-5.
Kara Horwald and Shannon Cleary each score two goals in a balanced DP attack against Coronado.
Jamie Neushul poured in six goals and Cleary, Kodi Hill and Laurel Kistler added three apiece in the win over Agoura. Dos Pueblos is 15-7.
