Cate drops to Besant Hill despite lockdown defense

The Cate School Boys basketball team had an excellent defensive outing on Wednesday at home against Besant Hill, but struggled on the offensive end of the floor and lost 41-34.

“We had lots of opportunities and the ball was just not dropping for us,” head coach Bryan Rodriguez said.

Max Wankner had double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Austin Gallegos led the team with 11 points. Kyle Mayfield added seven more.

Cate was superb defensively, and did not allow more than 11 points in any quarter.

“It was exaclty what we wanted to do in terms of our defensive approach,” Rodriguez said.

Unfortunately, a poor shooting night negated the effort, but the Rams are still in excellent position to make it to the playoffs.

Cate (5-4 Condor Leauge, 7-7 overall) will play Midland on Friday at home. A win would likely seal third place in league and a postseason birth.
