Bishop puts Santa Clara away in the first half

Bishop Diego kept its playoff hopes alive with a 4-0 win over Santa Clara on Tuesday in a Frontier League girls soccer match.

All the scoring was done in the first half.

“I thought we played very good soccer,” coach Brent Gonsalves said. “They came out and did the business right away.”

Gonsalves noted it was the first game he had a full roster of healthy players.

Annalise Morando got the Cardinals going in the first minute, taking the ball straight to goal after the kickoff. Hannah Brand, Elisa Bernardi and Gabby Koepenick tallied the other goals.

Bishop (12-6-2, 5-4) stands in fourth place in the league, one point behind third-place Fillmore. The Cardinals finish the regular season against league co-leader Grace Brethren while Fillmore plays Carpinteria, the other co-leader.
