Bishop pulls away from Carpinteria in second half

Bishop Diego used a big second half to break away from Carpinteria and rolled to a 64-39 win in a Frontier League boys basketball game at the Brickhouse on Friday night.

After being tied 25-25 at halftime, the Cardinals outscored Carpinteria 22-5 in the third quarter to break the game open.

“For us, the second-half scoring was really spread out,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said.

The Cardinals also played tough defense.

“In the second quarter we got into foul trouble and they made 11 free throws,” Prophet said. “We did a lot of reaching. That’s one thing we talked about at halftime: stay in front of your man and show your hands.

“We really locked down their shooter, (Jordan) Robinson.”

Prophet also praised the defense of Reese Moulton and Leo Schneider on Carpinteria’s Andrew Sova. He was held to two points in the second half.

Elias Munoz scored 16 points and Moulton added 13 to pace a balanced Bishop offense.

Kyle Millhollin and Jeffrey Moorhouse each scored eight points to lead Carpinteria.

Bishop improves to 7-2 in league and reaches the .500 mark with a 13-13 overall record. Carpinteria is 2-7, 3-16.
