Bishop Diego can’t find back of net in 0-0 tie

In the last game of the regular season, Bishop Diego spent the entire 80 minutes firing away at Grace Brethren’s goal but could not put in a goal and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

“It was all us,” head coach Brent Gonsalves said. “We dominated the entire game had lots of chances and just could not bury the ball.”

Thursday’s result placed the Cardinals fourth in the Frontier League after Fillmore defeated Carpinteria 1-0. The team finished 5-4-1 in league and will file for an at-large bid based on its 12-6-3 overall record. The playoff brackets will be released Monday.

Despite Grace Brethren’s lackluster performance, the team finished first in league.

If the Cardinals are accepted into the postseason, they will have plenty to build on from the final game of the regular season.

“I just thought we played a very good game,” Gonsalves said. “We could’ve beat anybody today.”
