Carpinteria’s girls water polo team nearly took down Malibu in a Tri-Valley League game on Monday, which would have been the Sharks’ first TVL loss in eight years.
The Warriors, led by four goals from Maddie Brooks, held a 7-5 lead going into the fourth quarter but could not score again and fell 8-7 to Malibu in Carpinteria.
Malibu tied the game at the four minute mark and overtook the Warriors with just over a minute to go.
Hope Grant scored twice and Tatiana Verdugo added another for the Warriors, who are 7-6, 0-1 on the season.
Warriors head coach Bryan Swarm had mixed feelings on the loss.
“At least we’re on the radar; we’re almost there,” he said.
Carpinteria gets another shot at Malibu later in the TVL season.
