UCSB swimming signs six to national letters of intent

Six student-athletes have committed to join the UC Santa Barbara swim teams for the 2012-13 season by signing National Letters of Intent it was announced by head coach Gregg Wilson.

Kimmie Kruezberger (Sausalito, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) will join the women’s team while Richard Davison (Corte Madera, Calif./Redwood HS), Josh Smith (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS), Weston Landre (Loomis, Calif./Del Oro HS), Andy Castilleja (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale HS) and Mickey Mowry (Pasadena, Calif./Gendale Senior HS) will join the men’s squad.

This group of athletes is anticipated to add a wide range of strength and variety of stroke and distance disciplines to the swimming teams. The heavy recruitment of men’s swimmers was critical because the current team will graduate seven student-athletes this season.

“Our senior class is one of the most talented we’ve had in recent years,” Wilson said. “We needed our 2012 freshmen to posses the same drive and focus as our departing seniors. We feel, with this group, that we are on the right track to have another class of freshmen who make immediate impacts on our program.”

After taking almost two months off from action, the UCSB swim teams will compete in the first meet of 2012 on Saturday, Jan. 21 when the Gauchos host UNLV in an 11 a.m. dual at Campus Pool.
