Royals pounce on Bulldogs down the stretch

San Marcos closed out Buena on a 22-7 run to claim Friday night’s Channel League boys basketball contest 52-33 at the Thunderhut.

The Royals were paced by Kevin Hempy’s 11 points and eight rebounds, plus eight points and six rebounds from Cade Ridenour.

San Marcos led 30-26 in the third quarter before creating separation down the stretch. The Royals scored the final five points of the third quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 17-7 in the final frame.

The victory gives San Marcos a 4-3 league record heading into Wednesday’s clash with Santa Barbara.
