San Marcos split its two matches on the opening day of the Bonita Water Polo Tournament.
The Royals opened with an 8-6 victory over Walnut. Hannah Koper and Hannah Johnson carried the offense, combining for seven goals.
In its second match, San Marcos lost a tough 7-6 decision to Upland in sudden-death overtime. Johnson scored three goals to pace the Royals.
San Marcos is back in action at 8 a.m. in a quarterfinal game against La Jolla at Claremont High.
