Marymount makes out well at Christian Athletic League tourney

Marymount captured all three titles at the recent Christian Athletic League basketball tournament held at Bishop Diego High School.

A.V. Bennett was named MVP for leading the Marymount varsity past St. Raphael in the championship game. Marymount jumped out to a big lead in the first half and held off the Chargers in the second half to record a 54-41 victory. Mt. Carmel finished in third place thanks to a 49-41 victory over Laguna Blanca.

Gianni Montesano was MVP in the junior varsity tournament. Montesano’s Marymount defeated Notre Dame 46-42. In a game that went down to the final seconds, Montesano hit two free throws with four seconds left to give Marymount a four-point lead.

In the sixth-grade final, Marymount edged Laguna Blanca 32-23. With an eight-point deficit and four minutes to go, Laguna started to foul to stop the clock, but Marymount’s guards hit their free throws while withstanding a late game charge by the Owls.
