Backup point guard Lisa Huang hit a basket with 35 seconds remaining to lift Cate’s girls basketball team to a 38-36 non-league win over Vasquez on Wednesday.
Vasquez got a good look at the tying basket but it missed and Cate grabbed the rebound and ran out the clock.
“It was a great win for us,” said Cate coach Jay Dorion, whose team is 5-6.
Freshman Brittany Newsome played a strong game with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Dorion praised the defense of Erica Noble, who guarded Vasquez’s top player the entire game.
