Grace Brethren edges Cardinals

Grace Brethren took a key Frontier League game from Bishop Diego on Tuesday, topping the Cardinals 2-1.

“We are just dropping like flies with injuries,” lamented Cardinals head coach Brent Gonsalves, who was missing two of his top scoring threats along with several other key pieces.

Grace Brethren took advantage and built a 2-0 lead before Annalise Mirando gave the Cardinals life by scoring in the 70th minute.

No more great chances materialized though, dropping Bishop to 2-3 in league play.

“We controlled the game for a little while but the damage was done,” Gonsalves said. “I thought Grace was a good team. I think we played good soccer, and I think Grace played great soccer.”

The Cardinals have a second shot at Carpinteria in their next game on Thursday. The Warriors won the first matchup 1-0.
