Chargers edged by Cougars in 3-point game

Ventura outlasted Dos Pueblos 48-45 in a Channel League game on Tuesday, holding off the Chargers on the Cougars’ home court.

“It was a close game all the way through,” said Chargers head coach Jelani Hicks. “It was just a tough defensive battle for both teams.”

Jessica Escalante was hurt in the second half and did not return for Dos Pueblos, although Hicks didn’t believe the injury to be serious.

Jasmine Mata was DP’s leading scorer with 17 points. Escalante tallied nine points before getting hurt.

Ventura, now 13-2 overall, is 3-0 in league play while Dos Pueblos falls to 1-1 in league. The Chargers face Santa Barbara in another league game on Thursday while Ventura plays Bellarmine-Jefferson in a non-league clash on Saturday.
