Cardinals defense dominates in blowout win

The Bishop Diego boys basketball team clamped down on defense in the second half, only allowing 13 points after the midway point en route to a 62-40 home victory over Santa Paula.

“In the second half we picked up our defensive pressure,” head coach Dean Prophet said. “Almost every shot they took was contested.”

Elias Munoz led the Cardinals in scoring with 24 points, and Reese Moulton added 14 more.

Bishop Diego built an early lead but Santa Paula chipped away during the second quarter and pulled within six points.

The Cardinals came out of the halftime break with renewed energy and scored 22 points in the third quarter while only allowing four.

After the impressive third period performance, Bishop Diego cruised to victory.

The Cardinals (2-1 Frontier League, 7-11 overall) will continue their season on Wednesday at Carpinteria.
