Big third quarter sparks Bishop past Grace Brethren

Bishop Diego poured in five 3-pointers in the third period and stepped up its defensive pressure to defeat Grace Brethren 59-42 in a Frontier League boys basketball opener on Friday night.

Elias Munoz bombed in two treys and Sam Kwock, Nolan Tisdale and Reese Moulton each added one as the Cardinals outscored Grace 26-3 to take a 49-31 lead.

It was big turnaround for Bishop, which was outscored 20-7 in the second quarter.

“We had a terrible second quarter,” coach Dean Prophet said. “Actually, I didn’t feel we got a really good start. We talked about it at halftime and came out and put more pressure on them, and they started turning the ball over.
