Warriors secure first shutout of season

Carpinteria High’s boys soccer team shut out Thacher 3-0 on Wednesday, but it wasn’t until the second half that the Warriors found their way.

“The second half was much better,” explained Warriors head coach Daniel Torres. “We obviously finished our chances in the second half.”

“We were struggling in the shooting department, in the finishing department.”

Omar Vazquez broke through first. Carpinteria took a 1-0 lead just three minutes after halftime.

The Warriors’ second came from Adam Ughoc’s on-target header.

“It was a nifty little finish,”  Torres said.

Edwin Elizarraras put home a penalty kick for the final goal. Billy Ramirez drew the foul to provide Elizarraras the opportunity.

It was the team’s first shutout of the season in three games. Eduardo Garcia recorded the cleansheet.

Carpinteria (2-1) plays Channel Islands on Friday.

“On the road against a good team, it will let us know where we’re at,” Torres said.
