Turnovers lead to loss for San Marcos

The San Marcos boys basketball team played tough defense, but committed 18 turnovers and lost 56-39 to Ocean View at the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic.

Chad Ridenour led the team with 13 points and Kevin Hempy added six more.

Ridenour missed yesterday’s game with an injury, but fought through the pain to turn in an impressive performance today.

The Royals were able to hold Ocean View’s leading scorer on the season to zero points, but other players were able to step up and put the ball in the basket.

A fine defensive performance was negated by sloppy play on the other end of the floor, as the Royals had ten turnovers in the first half.

“We have to take care of the ball better and get better shots for our big guys,” head coach Jarrod Bradley said.

San Marcos has two forwards, Cade Ridenour and Thayer White, who are shooting over 50 percent from the field this season.

The Royals (8-5) will continue tournament play tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Leuzinger.
