TOC Day 4 UPDATES: SB Tournament of Champions girls basketball

SANTA BARBARA TOC DAY FOUR: Championship Day is here at the 2011 Tournament of Champions with finals matchups set for both the Gold and Green Divisions.

Channel League rivals Ventura and Buena will meet for the Gold Division title at 7:30 p.m. Rio Mesa will meet Pacifica at 5:45 to decide the Green Division championship.

Both games are at Santa Barbara High School.

Presidio Sports continues to provide live updates, with scores and game highlights throughout the tournament. Senior reporter Barry Punzal will be at tonight’s Gold Division championship and be publishing a game story and video recap later tonight.

GOLD DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: Buena and Ventura are meeting for the third time this season. They split their previous games in tournament championships.

First quarter: Teams off to a torrid start. Buena’s Taylor McGuire and Ventura’s Haley Litten trade 3s. Quarter ends in a 17-17 tie, Buena’s Megan Cooper hits a 3 just before buzzer to knot the score.

Second quarter: Teams cool off and get sloppy with the ball. Ventura leads 26-23 with 1:40 left.Meghan Shanks hits back-to-back jumpers, the last one with one second left in  half to give Cougars a 30-25 lead.

Third quarter: Ventura leads 38-33 after two Megan Shank FTs with 1:29 left in period. End of the quarter, Ventura holds a 40-36 lead.

Fourth quarter: Ventura’s Meghan Shanks hits four free throws down the stretch to left Cougars to a 57-54 win over Buena. Shanks leads all scorers with 24 points and is named the tournament MVP.

GREEN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: Rio Mesa pulls away in the second half and beats Pacifica 59-42. Rio Mesa’s Riley Abraham is named the MVP. Ashley Ontiveros scored 17 points to lead the Spartans in the final. Brooke Dixon scored 11 for Pacifica. Rio Mesa led 32-25 at halftime. Rio Mesa goes on 7-0 run to start third quarter, 39-25.  Ashley Ontiveros drives around defender and scores before buzzer to put Rio Mesa up 43-29 at the end of the third quarter.

FINAL SCORES — Oak Park 40, Morro Bay 32; Los Alamitos 45, Mira Costa 38; Bishop Montgomery 63, Orange Lutheran 50 (Gold Third Place)

HIGH SCORER UPDATE — Alicia Mehtlan from Willits High School has the day’s highest individual offensive output with 27 points in a victory over Providence Hall in the Green Division. Peninsula’s Stephanie Wong holds on to the tournament’s single-game high with 32 points on Wednesday.

GOLD DIVISION CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP — L.A. City Section’s Monroe brings down Bonita 38-35 in a close one at Santa Barbara High School. Bonita, the No. 1 team in Southern Section’s Division 3-AAA, finishes tournament 2-2.

FINAL SCORES COMING IN — Monroe 38,  Bonita 35; Righetti 37, Valencia (Placentia) 20

FINAL SCORE — Dos Pueblos outlasts Santa Barbara 75-74 after two overtime periods. Kristen Gowdy sank two free throws with four seconds remaining to give the Chargers a 3-point lead. Sylvia Hoover went the length of the court for a layup but there wasn’t any more time left on the clock.

2OT Dos Pueblos vs. Santa Barbara — The Chargers and Dons are playing in a second overtime with the game tied at 62-62 going into the second extra period.

FINAL SCORES — Menlo 53, La Salle 44; St. Joseph 68, Agoura 52;  Willits 52, Providence Hall 42

Dos Pueblos vs. Santa Barbara — Chiara DiMarco’s layup at the end of regulation sends this game into overtime tied 54-54.

Dos Pueblos vs. Santa Barbara — With 30 seconds remaining, Dos Pueblos comes out of a timeout with possession but trailing 53-52.

Dos Pueblos vs. Santa Barbara — The Dons lead 47-46 in the fourth quarter in a Gold Division game between Channel League rivals.

Final Score: Channel Islands 70, Santa Ynez 48.

San Marcos vs. Nipomo – The Royals start the day off in dramatic fashion as Hope Morrison drains a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift San Marcos to a 40-39 victory in a Green Division game that started at 9 a.m.
