TOURNAMENT UPDATES INTRO: Wednesday’s four games at the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic will decide matchups for Thursday’s final games.

Presidio Sports will be providing sporadic updates throughout the day from J.R. Richards Gym.

First up is Bishop Diego vs. Burroughs. Then Clovis West vs. Ocean View, followed by San Marcos and Leuzinger. Santa Barbara High’s varsity will face off against its JV team in the nightcap.

Santa Barbara is in the driver’s seat to make it to Thursday’s championship game with a 2-0 record so far. The winner of Clovis West and Ocean View will make the title game.

GAME OVER: Santa Barbara’s varsity wraps up a 60-43 win over its own JV team to complete the day’s games. The Dons win their third straight in the tournament and fourth overall to advance to Thursday’s championship game versus Ocean View.

SANTA BARBARA VARSITY vs. SANTA BARBARA JV: The much bigger Dons’ senior team takes a 32-16 lead at halftime. That becomes 47-30 after three quarters. The varsity Dons are spreading it around with nine different scorers. Max Cohen is highest with six.

GAME OVER: Eleven 3-pointers from Leuzinger proved too much for San Marcos in a 60-37 contest.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: Leuzinger builds on its lead after halftime, making it 41-25 at the end of the third. Then seven quick points to start the fourth quarter put Leuzinger even farther ahead at 48-25.

HIGH SCORER UPDATE: Ocean View’s Conor Clifford’s 27 points today matched Clovis West’s Charlie Thompson for the single-game high score in the tournament. Thompson did it against Leuzinger while Clifford poured in 27 in a win over Thompson’s Clovis West.

HALFTIME: Leuzinger takes a 26-18 advantage into the locker room. Leuzinger has been on-target from outside so far and its full-court press has been effective at disrupting the Royals.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: A back-and-forth first quarter ends with Leuzinger up 13-7. The Olympians scored nine of their 13 points on three 3-pointers – two by Eric Childress – and closed the period on an 8-0 run.

SAN MARCOS vs. LEUZINGER: Both teams enter this game having lost both of their tournament games to Clovis West and Ocean View. The winner will place for fifth place tomorrow.

GAME OVER: Ocean View remains undefeated in the tournament after three games with a 70-60 victory over Clovis West. The Hawks advance to tomorrow’s championship game while Clovis West will meet Bishop Diego in the third-place game. Ocean View’s Conor Clifford tallies 27 points to lead all scorers.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: Ocean View has continued to control this game, extending its lead slightly in the third quarter. The Hawks now lead 55-35. Clifford added six points to his total in the period and now has 21 for the game. Charlie Thompson took over the scoring lead for Clovis West with 11.

HALFTIME: Ocean View is taking it to Clovis West 41-25. The super-quick Hawks have been able to get out in transition for a number of easy baskets, many to center Conor Clifford. Clifford leads all scorers with 15 points. TJ Jackson is tops on Clovis West with 10.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: Ocean View holds a 20-12 lead going into the second quarter.

CLOVIS WEST vs. OCEAN VIEW: This matchup features the top two scorers of the tournament over the first two days in TJ Jackson and Charlie Thompson. The pair is providing Clovis West with over 40 points a game. The winner of this game makes tomorrow’s title game.

GAME OVER: Bishop Diego reserves a place in tomorrow’s 3rd-place game with a 59-49 overtime victory over Burroughs of Burbank. The Cardinals gained momentum when they erased a late six-point lead in the final two minutes of regulation and carried it into the extra period.

OVERTIME: The final minute went by without any more points on the scoreboard. Bishop Diego’s Sam Kwock missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it for the Cardinals. Elias Munoz leads all scorers with 21 points.

ONE MINUTE REMAINING IN GAME: Burroughs and Bishop Diego are locked up 46-46 with 52.7 seconds remaining. Burroughs had taken a 46-40 lead but the Cardinals quickly reeled off six-straight points to tie it up.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: Elias Munoz put Bishop on his back and carried the Cardinals through the third quarter. Munoz scored Bishop’s first 10 points in the period, helping the Cardinals trim Burroughs’ lead to 36-34 going into the fourth quarter.

HALFTIME STATS: Leo Schneider leads all scorers with 14. Schneider scored all 10 points for Bishop in the first quarter, which included a pair of layups, a 3-pointer, and 3 made free throws, and has 14 of the Cardinals’ 21 points so far. Ty Bennett leads Burroughs with seven points, all coming in Burroughs’ 20-point second quarter.

Bishop Diego vs. Burroughs: Bishop Diego takes a 10-4 lead after the first quarter, but Burroughs has fought back to take a 24-21 lead at halftime. The winner of this game will play in tomorrow’s third-place game having won 2-of-3 games in group play. The loser will play for fifth-place.
